ABSTRACT:
Focuses on the aspects of the 'Polish crisis' of the 1980s which have had direct implications on the leisure patterns of the Polish people. Reviews the most important changes in the use of time that have taken place between the two most recent nationwide time budget surveys and 1984), which can be at least partly attributed to the crisis. Compares leisure spending from personal income in 1980 and 1985. Attempts to interpret the time budget and personal consumption statistics in the context of the 'leisure infrastructure' as well as the political climate, health standards, housing conditions, and pollution of the environment. Assesses whether or not there has been an adjustment to the crisis, and observes that the uses of leisure have changed. Considers both positive and negative impacts of the crisis on leisure patterns in Poland.
