ABSTRACT:
This paper discusses the lack of research being done with respect to the accuracy of respondent recall. Two previous studies are detailed in which such information was controlled with the results indicating that over 75 per cent of all respondents overestimate their frequency of participation. The implications for further research are discussed. Conducts a study of participants' ability to recall the frequency of playing tennis during the summers of 1979 and 1980. Uses questionnaire and organizational records of racquet players (N=54) and suggests that recall was not accurate and tended to overestimate participation. Found no relationship between skill level and degree of overestimation.
