ABSTRACT:
This paper describes alternative non-experimental methodologies for the study of sport and sport-related behavior. Specific designs and alternatives presented and reviewed include: time series designs, multiple baseline case designs, and field experiments. The integration of basic and applied research orientations is viewed as essential for the continuing maturation of this field. Suggests that in addition to the traditional experimental methods, sport researchers can find valuable use for non-experimental methodologies. Presents a variety of alternative methodologies. Recommends an integration of basic and applied research orientations.
