ABSTRACT:
Examination of the social processes through which violence has become a part of sport and the relationship to the socio-structural environment surrounding sport has with violence. The author looks at violence and the commercialization of sport, the social organization of sport teams, socialization of athletes into roles and player and spectator violence. Discusses the social problems through which violence has become a part of sport and the relationship between violence and the socio-cultural context in which sport exists. Specifically focuses on violence related to commercialization of sport, the structure and organization of the team and player violence serving as a catalyst for spectator violence.
