ABSTRACT:
Starting from a macro-sociological analysis of the structure of the field of physical activities and sports in France, we endeavour to draw some elements of prospection. Four main functions of sports are delineated, with the institutions and organizations on which they bear. Stakes, alliances and conflicts of functions are shown. A cursory picture of the transformations of the field of sports in France from 1960 until now shows how some institutions, and the functions they favour, are reinforced, and others weakened. Through this dynamic brief survey, we select some aspects of the evolution, which would mark the sports sector in the next years. The model will be transposed to other countries.
