ABSTRACT:
Represents an analysis of sport as a cultural activity. Sport as a leisure activity and an educational device are the two primary areas touched upon. Applauds sport for its ability to cathartically express violence and at the same time contain it within the 'unreal' world of play. Contains an appeal for education for leisure activity. Concludes by discussing seven areas related to physical education and sport that demand investigation, and finally five research proposals are offered.
