POSITION(S) / JOB TITLE(S):
Assistant Professor |
Dr. Thornton's current research focuses on the mechanical characterization of ligaments of the knee joint. Normal, injured, and reconstructed ligaments are evaluated using experimental mechanical testing techniques to identify the reasons for mechanical inferiority during healing and assess the effectiveness of different reconstruction techniques.
Dr. Thornton's future research will build on current work in soft tissue (ligament) mechanics and expand into complementary areas of soft tissue (tendon and skin) and hard tissue (bone) mechanics with continued focus on characterizing the mechanical behaviour of these tissues after injury or following surgery.
