medicinal chemistry;Design, synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of novel heterocyclic compounds which act on the arachidonic acid cascade. Current focus is on leukotriene antagonists and potassium channel modulators; utilization of microbial cells as ‘biochemical reagents’ for the synthesis of biologically active drugs and preparation of human drug metabolites, development of chromatographic (HPLC, GC) methods for the analysis of drugs and metabolites in biological fluids. Current interest has focused on the analysis of drug enantiomers. Techniques are then applied to detailed study of the pharmacokinetics in animals and humans (in collaboration with faculty pharmacokineticists). |
