The Cultural Studies Association of Turkey was established in 2005 as the continuation of the Group for Cultural Studies in Turkey which had been operating since 1999.
The World League of Tatars was established in 1991 as the association of the diaspora of the descendants of the people of the Kazan Khanate, whose territory was invaded by the Russians in 1552. The homeland comprises the Volga-Ural (Idil-Ural) region which contains the present-day "autonomous republic"s of Tchuvachstan, Tatarstan and Bashkortostan in the Russian Federation.
