The Centre for the Study of Rural Ireland is a not-for-profit, scholarly and educational organization committed to providing a better understanding of daily rural life before the Great Hunger, roughly from 1650-1850. Its focus is on south County Sligo, in the Republic of Ireland.
Specifically, the Centre seeks to do the following:
to promote knowledge about traditional life;
to conduct archaeological, historical, and folkloric research;
to provide educational programs, and
to help promote tourism and foster a greater appreciation of County Sligo.
The Centre operates with funds obtained through grants and private donations.
