DESCRIPTION:

The School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering has a rich history at OU. It all started in 1905 when the university established the School of Applied Science consisting of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Shortly thereafter, James Houston Felgar became an instructor of Mechanical Engineering in 1906. That same year he was appointed to the position of Instructor in Charge. In 1908 Felgar became the Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, a position which he filled until 1925. He also served as Dean of the College of Engineering from 1909 to 1937. He retired in 1937 and was appointed Dean Emeritus and Professor of Engineering.
