DESCRIPTION:
The Penn State English department is home to a diverse and active faculty who teach and publish in many areas including traditional periods of literary study; race, nationality, or ethnicity studies; theory; rhetoric and composition; cultural studies, including science, medicine, and technology in culture; and book history. We also have a thriving community of creative-writing students and professors. Undergraduate and graduate students at Penn State can specialize in any of the above areas. In addition, students can take English-affiliated courses in American Studies and Women's Studies, and can specialize in technical writing. The English department faculty consists of tenure-track professors, full-time instructors, and graduate lecturers. It provides quality education, preparing students for careers both inside and outside the academy, and its members have won many awards for excellence in teaching and research.
