DESCRIPTION:
The Ethnography Section is an important museological and research unit set up under the Department of Cultural Anthropology. It seeks to promote anthropological research and encourage better understanding in the fields of material culture and the arts through the study of material and immaterial testimonies connected with past and present expressive cultures and the analysis of social formations in Sub-Saharan Africa and the African diaspora. The Ethnography Section disseminates this knowledge through scientific exhibitions, publications and activities geared towards a wide public. It is also involved not only in critical studies and in the circulation of the cultural heritage entrusted to it but also in the development of anthropological field research and cooperation projects with scientific and cultural institutions in Africa. In this way, the Museum seeks to enrich its collections through the acquisition, reservation, management and conservation of contemporary material and immaterial testimonies to the art and material culture of Sub-Saharan Africa in all their widely varying expressive forms.
