DESCRIPTION:
Research Unit I looks at the internal development of the EU and its foreign relations. Internal EU development topics include constitutional questions as to its legal competences, its power of action, its internal limitations and external borders. They also include formative processes in important policy-fields, as well as Germany’s political interests and objectives in Europe. Since early 2001, constitutional issues of the expanding EU and of its definitive institutional form of institutions become more urgent. As to EU foreign relations, it is the role and policies of the EU in global and regional cooperation which are of special interest to this research unit.
