Public Administration - Law Enforcement

Prev | Next

Nevada State College

DESCRIPTION:

This degree program is designed to prepare law enforcement personnel (commissioned and civilian) throughout the state to become the next generation of middle mangers in their respective agencies. Practitioners in the law enforcement field within the state of Nevada designed the curriculum concept. Students will take courses in Law Enforcement, Leadership and Public Administration, and Organizational Management in preparation for the challenges they face as law enforcement middle managers in the 21st century. The role of the law enforcement middle manager is primarily to provide leadership to the agency stakeholders. The twenty-first century middle manager must be able to adapt to rapid technology changes, interact with diverse groups of citizens, and possess the ability to manage daily operations on limited budgets. The middle manager must be responsible for the management of the law enforcement agency and yet foster a sense of empowerment among the employees. The objective of the baccalaureate degree in Public Administration is to provide current and future middle managers with the professional skills and management tools necessary to succeed in the administration of a law enforcement agency within the state of Nevada. State law enforcement middle managers will eventually become the senior cadre of their respective law enforcement agencies. A social science course foundation is necessary to understand the many complex community policing issues in a diverse society. It is also important to understand the importance of culture and rituals in law enforcement organizations.
