Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts (BECA)

Prev | Next

San Francisco State University

DESCRIPTION:

The Broadcast & Electronic Communication Arts Department at San Francisco State University is dedicated to the education of undergraduate and graduate students who are effective producers and interpreters of electronic media messages. In a rapidly-evolving communications environment, the BECA curriculum is adapting to the technical, theoretical, and social implications of transitional and new media forms. A traditionally strong program in radio and television broadcasting has been augmented with courses in digital audio production, desktop video production, and new communication technologies. An extensive internship program provides on-the-job experience for over 100 students each semester in Bay Area television/radio stations, advertising agencies, governmental institutions, multimedia companies, and postproduction houses. Graduates of the department work in media environments throughout the United States and the world -- many have gone on to pursue graduate studies at the masters or doctoral level at other institutions. Graduates of the BECA program at San Francisco State University are held in high regard by working professionals in American broadcasting and other related media industries.
