DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Communications at West Virginia State College offers hands-on skills and training in a variety of communications fields. We prepare students for direct entry into such industries as television production, radio, film, and public relations. Traditional courses in theatre, speech, and journalism are also offered. Many of our graduates are working for local, regional and national television and radio stations, public relations firms, film companies, media agencies and corporations. Others have gone on to graduate school in a variety of fields. Our students receive training on state-of-the-art equipment (digital video editing systems, audio boards, cameras, etc.) and receive direct field experience through our internship program. Over 100 businesses across the country have utilized WVSC Communications interns including over 50 radio and TV stations, 12 public relations firms, 5 newspapers, 15 corporations and 20 government agencies. Our interns have also worked for ABC’s Nightline, ESPN and the Black Entertainment Network.
