Griffith University’s School of Tourism and Hotel Management has seen dramatic growth over the last ten years. The Bachelor of Hotel Management was first introduced in 1990. Since then the School has expanded its suite of courses to include double degrees (i.e. Bachelor of Hotel Management/Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Hotel Management/Bachelor of Arts (Japanese). In 1997, the School offered the Bachelor of Business in Restaurant and Catering Management degree to meet industry needs. The School provides Masters of International Tourism and Hospitality Management degrees both on campus and off shore. The School also has a number of students undertaking Honours year and PhD programs.
Students enrolled in the School have access to a new multimillion dollar, state-of-the-art library which opened in September 1996. In addition, students are given access to well equipped computer laboratories with industry relevant software packages (e.g. FIDELIO front office management software). The School has a well equipped 60 seat restaurant - CJ's at the Link, with facilities for full silver service, Gueridon and flambe table cooking. The involvement of Conrad Jupiters as a significant sponsor of the School’s training restaurant resulted in major refurbishment of the training restaurant during 1997, and a change in its name to "CJ’s at the Link".
The School established a Centre (Centre for Tourism and Hotel Management Research) for conducting research projects relevant to the tourism and hotel industries in 1994.
