Brown, David H. K.
|
Lecturer |
David's current research interests concern the development of interpretive socio-cultural understandings of the body-self-society complex in the field of health, exercise and sport science. Previous research work has included enquiry into the changing social identities experienced by male bodybuilders as they develop hypermuscular physiques and the social construction of masculinities through teaching Physical Education. He is currently exploring the changing body-self relationships through the long term practice of martial arts. He has published in journals such as Sport, Education and Society; Quest; Journal of Teaching Physical Education, Forum for Qualitative Research, Auto/Biography and the International Review for the Sociology of Sport. David is also interested in the use and development of qualitative research methods.

Phoenix, Cassandra
|
Lecturer |
Cassandra graduated from the University of Exeter in 2001 with a BSc (Hons) in Exercise and Sport Sciences. She remained at Exeter for her PhD under the supervision of Professor Andrew Sparkes. In 2004 she was appointed to a teaching fellowship. Cassie is a member of the Qualitative Research Unit and her current research interests are concerned with young athletes perceptions of self-ageing. In particular, Cassie is interested in the construction and (anticipated) reconstruction of specific identities and emerging body-self relationships over time; how narrative maps of later life are projected onto young athletic bodies, and the manner in which such maps may shape and frame stories of self-ageing and future embodiment.
