Information for Advertisers

We at getCITED are committed to providing the academic community with the most powerful search engine possible. Toward that end, we have, for example, kept graphical content to an absolute minimum so as to provide quicker response times to our members' inquiries. That said, we are also committed to making this search engine available at no cost whatsoever to those that use it. For this to happen, we have to rely on advertising, affiliate and sponsorship revenues. Thus, the challenge we face is balancing the needs of our members with the needs of those who provide us with the revenue that is essential for us to continue operating and improving this site.

The approach we have adopted is to try to minimize the "commercial presence" at getCITED by focusing on providing high value opportunities for our commercial partners. For example, rather than having several banner advertisements on a page that advertise whatever product or service happens to come up, we are working hard to match advertisements with the content of the pages on which they appear and with the interests and geographical location of the members viewing the pages. By doing so, we hope to make advertising a service to our members as opposed to a necessary evil.

The same can be said of our affiliate relationships. In this instance, what we are trying to do is provide our members with a convenient means to purchase books that appear in their searches and which interest them. At the same time, we are trying to provide them with an easy means of carrying out price comparisons. So in this way, our members, our affiliates, and getCITED all benefit.

If your company would like to reach the academic community, we encourage you to contact us at advertising@getCITED.org. Although we exist to serve the academic community, we believe that this is best accomplished by working cooperatively with those whose commercial interests serve this community. As a result, we are willing to consider any sort of cooperative arrangement that proceeds in the same spirit as those described above. If you have an idea for such an arrangement, or wish to take advantage of our existing arrangements, please drop us a line to let us know what you have in mind.
